Your Kas eSIM guide
Kas is one of the most relaxed spots on the Turkish coast. Whitewashed houses with flower-draped balconies climb the hillside above clear blue water, the harbour fills each morning with boats heading out to swim, snorkel and dive, and evenings are spent in the lanes around the main square. It is a favourite with walkers, divers and anyone looking for a quieter side of Turkey.
Mobile coverage in Kas
Kas is a small harbour town on a stretch of coast where the mountains come straight down to the sea, and its size shapes the connectivity picture. In the town itself - the harbour, the main square, the lanes of shops and restaurants and the hotels on the peninsula to the west - 4G signal is generally good and comfortably handles maps, messaging and uploads. Because the town is small and hemmed in by steep hillsides, though, you don't have to go far before the connection becomes less certain.
Turkey's mobile networks are Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom, and all three reach Kas. Along the coast road, in the hills above town, in quiet bays and out at sea, coverage tends to come and go. That's the trade-off for a part of Turkey that is wilder and less developed than the big resorts further east. If coverage on a particular network is important to you, each plan's page shows which network it uses.
Getting around Kas
Kas is a long transfer from either of the region's main airports. From Dalaman Airport (DLM) to the west, the drive usually takes a couple of hours or more; from Antalya Airport (AYT) to the east, allow three hours or more. Both routes follow winding roads through the mountains and along the coast, and there are stretches where the signal drops between headlands and valleys, so it's worth sorting your directions and messaging your accommodation before you leave the airport.
Within Kas, almost everything is walkable, and buses and dolmus minibuses connect the town with neighbouring Kalkan and the villages along the coast. Taxis and hire cars are the easiest way to reach the beaches and trailheads. Signal in the centre is dependable, but on the road east or west you should expect gaps, and many visitors find it simplest to download offline maps for the whole area before they set off.
Where you'll use data most in Kas
A short drive west of town, Kaputas beach sits at the mouth of a gorge, reached by a long flight of steps from the coast road, and it is one of the most photographed beaches in Turkey. Signal is usually reasonable at the roadside viewpoint but can be weaker down on the sand. East of Kas, boat trips to Kekova glide over the partly sunken remains of an ancient city and stop at the castle village of Simena; out on the water and in sheltered coves the connection is patchy, so share your photos once you're back in harbour. Kas is also a well-known base for diving and snorkelling, and a starting point for walks on sections of the long-distance Lycian Way, where coverage on the trail varies with every ridge and valley.
From Kas harbour, a short ferry crosses to the Greek island of Kastellorizo, known in Turkish as Meis. That crossing takes you into Greece, where a Turkey-only plan won't work, so if a day trip is on your list, look at an eSIM for Greece as well. Further west along the coast, Patara combines one of Turkey's longest sandy beaches with extensive ancient ruins; the beach is wide open and largely undeveloped, so signal can be patchier there than in town.
Tips for staying connected in Kas
- Install your eSIM before the trip and switch it on when you land, so you're connected before the long drive from DLM or AYT begins.
- Bear in mind that Turkey is outside the EU: the European roaming allowance that comes with many UK contracts generally doesn't include it, so find out what your own network charges before using your home SIM here.
- Download offline maps of the coast road and any Lycian Way sections you plan to walk, as signal on the trail and in the valleys can't be relied on.
- On a Kekova boat trip or a dive day, keep your phone in a waterproof pouch and expect little or no signal for stretches offshore.
- If you're hopping over to Kastellorizo, sort out your Greek coverage before you board rather than once you're on the island.
- Put 112, Turkey's emergency number, in your phone, and tell someone your route before heading off on a long hike.
