Your Seychelles eSIM guide
How to install your the Seychelles eSIM in 3 steps
Rather than queueing at an arrivals-hall SIM counter, have your eSIM ready before wheels-down at Seychelles International Airport - installation takes minutes and works the same whether you're island-hopping to Mahé, Praslin or La Digue.
- Buy your Seychelles eSIM online and pick a data size that matches your route - a short Mahé-only stay needs far less than a trip that adds Praslin and La Digue by ferry.
- Install it before you fly, on hotel or home Wi-Fi. On iPhone go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM; on Android go to Settings > SIM Manager > Add eSIM, then scan the QR code and enable data roaming for the new line so it's ready the moment you land.
- Activate on arrival at Seychelles International Airport. Your handset should pick up Airtel Seychelles or Cable & Wireless Seychelles within moments of leaving the jet bridge, well before you've reached the taxi rank outside.
Mobile network coverage in the Seychelles
Mahé, Praslin and La Digue
Two operators run the country's mobile networks: Airtel Seychelles, the larger of the pair, and Cable & Wireless Seychelles (CWS), part of the Liberty Latin America group. Both run 3G and 4G LTE across the three main islands, with 4G reaching most populated parts of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue at speeds comfortable for maps, messaging and everyday streaming. Victoria, the capital on Mahé, has strong 4G and now an early pocket of 5G. Praslin's main settled areas get solid 4G. La Digue - known for its bicycles and slower pace - has adequate 4G in the village but weaker signal on some beaches and forest trails. Cable & Wireless tends to hold up better than Airtel once you move away from the main towns, particularly in the outer settled areas.
Outer islands and remote coastline
Beyond the three main islands, coverage effectively stops. Aldabra, Bird Island, Denis and the other outer atolls have no practical mobile signal, and visiting them means joining an expedition cruise rather than counting on a phone connection. Even on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, treat remote beaches and hiking trails as a coin-flip for signal rather than a guarantee - the strong 4G availability described above is really an urban and tourist-zone figure.
Moving between islands
The inter-island ferries are a genuine dead zone: the roughly 45-minute Mahé–Praslin crossing and the shorter 10-minute Praslin–La Digue hop both run out of cellular range mid-water, so don't plan on streaming or calls while you're on deck. Seychelles International Airport itself, by contrast, has excellent coverage from both networks right up to and through security.

| Moderate (social media, some streaming) | ~750 MB | ~5 GB | See moderate-use plans |

eSIM vs. roaming vs. a local SIM in the Seychelles
| Travel eSIM | Home-carrier roaming | Local SIM | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | From £3.52 | Often £11-£26 per day | From around £6, plus the trip to a store |
| Setup | Scan a QR code before you fly, activate on landing | Automatic, but check your carrier includes Seychelles | Buy in person at an official Airtel or CWS store, or the airport counter |
| Keep your number | Yes, alongside your regular SIM | Yes | No, you get a new Seychelles number |
| ID/passport needed | No | No | Yes - mandatory since 2009, checked at point of sale |
Retail sale of SIM cards has since ended, so a local SIM now means a visit to an official Airtel or CWS store or the airport counter with your passport in hand. For most visitors touring Mahé, Praslin and La Digue over one or two weeks, that extra step doesn't pay off next to an eSIM you can activate in the taxi. It starts to make sense the other way round only if you're on Mahé for an extended work posting or a multi-month stay, where a local prepaid or postpaid line from Airtel or CWS ends up cheaper across the whole visit.
Tips for staying connected in the Seychelles
- Save the emergency numbers before you land: 999 for Police and Fire, 151 for Ambulance, and the Seychelles Hospital main line, +248 4 38 80 00, for non-emergency medical queries.
- A physical Airtel or CWS SIM can't be arranged before you land - it means an in-person stop at a store or the airport counter - so if you want to be connected the moment you land, an eSIM installed on Wi-Fi before you fly is the more practical option.
- Expect to lose signal completely during the Mahé–Praslin and Praslin–La Digue ferry crossings; download maps, tickets and anything else you'll need mid-journey before you board.
- If a day trip or cruise takes you toward Aldabra, Bird Island or Denis, assume there's no mobile coverage at all and pack accordingly rather than relying on your phone.
- On La Digue, don't assume the same signal quality on quiet beaches and cycling trails that you get in the village centre.
- Heading on to nearby East Africa or the wider Indian Ocean afterwards? Check the Africa region eSIM for onward coverage.
