How to install your Bulgaria eSIM in 3 steps

Rural areas, the coast, and the mountains

Vivacom has the edge once you leave the big cities - it's known for strong coverage in rural and mountain terrain, which matters if your trip includes Bansko, the wider Pirin National Park, or the Rila Monastery, a popular day trip south of Sofia. Coverage there is usable 4G but can thin out on high trails such as the route to the Seven Rila Lakes, so download offline maps before you set off. Black Sea resort towns generally hold strong 4G/5G right through summer.

Getting around

Signal on intercity trains (Sofia–Plovdiv, Sofia–Varna) tends to drop in tunnels and cuttings, so don't rely on a video call mid-journey. Long-distance buses usually advertise free Wi-Fi, though it can slow to a crawl once a full coach of passengers is streaming at once - worth having your own eSIM data as a backup.

• State ambulance response is free by law, so calling 112 for a medical emergency won't come with a surprise bill on top of your travel plan.
• Heading into Pirin or Rila for hiking? Download offline maps first - coverage on trails near the Seven Rila Lakes and around Bansko's higher slopes can be patchy.
• On the Sofia–Plovdiv or Sofia–Varna rail lines, expect brief drops in tunnels; it's normal, not a fault with your eSIM.
• If your trip is EU-based, check your fair-use roaming cap (commonly 25-50GB) before relying on home-carrier roaming for a long Bulgarian stay.
